Whether it’s family visiting for the holidays or an old friend staying for a long-awaited reunion, creating a space where guests can feel at home is essential to making them feel welcome. Start with a comfortable bed dressed in soft, breathable linens. Neutral colors create a calming atmosphere, but don’t shy away from adding a pop of color with throw pillows or a cozy blanket. In this space, we selected accents in varying shades of blue to create a layered look.
Including a mix of ambient and task lighting is also key. Bedside lamps with warm tones offer a perfect reading nook, while dimmable overhead lights can set a soothing mood. We installed Hunter Douglas dual roller shades to allow for flexibility in controlling the natural light in this suite. The first layer is a light-filtering sheer that allows for some privacy while still being able to enjoy the beautiful view from the windows. The second layer is a blackout shade that creates the perfect environment for restful sleep. Finally, we adorned the windows with a decorative faux roman shade to create a finished look.
Make sure that your guests have ample storage. Clear a drawer or two in the dresser, as well as a section in the closet. A basket with extra blankets and pillows is a nice touch. Also consider adding small amenities like a water bottle, snacks, and a selection of books or magazines to make your guests feel at home. Make sure to stock the bathroom with fresh towels and toiletries. Finally, a fresh bouquet of flowers or greenery adds a touch of nature and warmth.
By combining comfort, aesthetics, and thoughtful details, your guest room can become a cherished space where visitors feel relaxed and valued.
