January always feels like a season of fresh starts, and this year that energy showed up in the most unexpected and delightful way through the GHBA Future Homebuilders LEGO Competition. This annual event celebrates creativity, problem solving, and a love of building at a young age, and I was especially proud to see Max Castillo take first place in the eight to nine age group with his LEGO version of our Southgate home. Seeing our project reimagined through his eyes was both humbling and incredibly special.

Max is the son of Mike Castillo, Superintendent for BAS Concepts, the builder of our home. Max’s attention to detail and overall vision truly captured the spirit of the project. In its own small but meaningful way, this win feels like another accolade for a home that has already been recognized with two ASID Ruby Awards, an Honorable Mention in the Paper City Design Awards, and finalist honors in three categories of the GHBA Prism Awards.
What I love most is how this competition encourages the next generation of builders to dream big and create boldly. Congratulations to Max and to all of this year’s talented young participants.
