Karen Black, RID, ASID
Karen’s love for Interior Design began at a very young age. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Karen grew up in a home where aesthetics were highly valued. Her father, while not an architect, designed the floor plan for the custom home that the family grew up in. It was an open-concept home with high ceilings and lots of natural light. Her mother, who loved to entertain, had an eye for design and always ensured the space was furnished in exceptional taste.
Long before Karen knew anything about AutoCAD or Space Planning, she was drawing floor plans on graph paper, designing spaces to remodel, painting furniture and helping friends and family redecorate. One of her greatest assets, however, is her technical background. After graduating from St. Agnes Academy, Karen attended Loyola University in New Orleans, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. From there, she went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in IT from the University of Houston.
After working in IT for the Oil and Gas Industry for a number of years and then taking a break from her career to raise her two children, Karen decided to pursue a Degree in Interior Design. She then worked for a well-known residential interior design firm in Houston that specializes in high-end new construction. It was there that she gained extensive experience working on projects from the ground up and attained the skills necessary to collaborate with Architects and Builders to assist her clients through every step of the design and construction process.
“I love getting to know my clients on a personal level in order to help them achieve their dream spaces, spaces that are not only beautiful, but that facilitate the way they live.”
